Originally from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, he graduated from Harvard College and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies at Columbia University and received her medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Dr. Lane then completed her ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital, followed by a prestigious two-year fellowship approved by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr. David Shiple comes to Ophthalmic Consultants of Vermont from his position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester. Prior to his professorship, Dr. Shiple completed his undergraduate studies in Civil & Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. While working as a structural engineer, Dr. Shiple realized that a career in medicine was his calling, leading him to enroll at the University of Vermont to complete his premedical studies. He earned his medical doctorate from The Ohio State College of Medicine, where he graduated Cum Laude and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. After completing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia, he pursued fellowship training in cornea and external disease at the University of Rochester.
Peter A. Rapoza

Dr. Peter Rapoza is an internationally recognized authority in refractive surgery, cataract surgery, and the medical and surgical treatment of the cornea and ocular surface. As an investigator, he has conducted studies on radial and astigmatic keratotomy, photorefractive keratectomy, LASIK, corneal transplantation, and cataract surgery. He has also participated in numerous clinical trials for ophthalmic pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of corneal transplant rejection, ocular inflammation in cataract surgery, dry eye, and ocular infections. He has worked extensively, teaching and providing medical care in Africa, the Middle East, East Asia, and South America. Dr. Rapoza has appeared on several television programs including “Connie Chung’s Eye to Eye”, CNN, and Public Broadcasting.

After receiving her medical degree, Dr. Larson completed an internship at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, where she received the “Most Outstanding Intern of the Year Award.” She then completed a residency in Ophthalmology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where she served as Chief Resident. Dr. Larson is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Shaunak Bakshi was raised on Long Island, New York, and graduated magna cum laude with distinction from Yale College. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and moved to Los Angeles, California to complete his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Southern California / Los Angeles General Medical Center. There, Dr. Bakshi ran a clinic caring for an underserved patient population with complex eye conditions at one of the nation’s largest public hospitals and busiest level 1 trauma centers. He earned recognition for his ability to connect with patients of many backgrounds, and was also honored with the Senior Resident Teaching Award.

After completing his internship at Lenox Hill Hospital, he joined a three-year residency program at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, where he served his final year as Chief Resident.

Esther Caballero-Manrique

After starting his career in private practice, he returned to academics as an assistant professor at a level-one trauma center at the same university.

Corey Sheahan, MD

Dr. Sheahan is a board-certified anesthesiologist with a specialization in pain medicine. He is a native Vermonter originally born in Burlington. He completed his medical school education, anesthesia residency and pain medicine fellowship all at the University of Vermont. He previously practiced at UVMMC providing operating room anesthesia and interventional pain procedures. As an assistant professor, his primary academic role was in the clinical education of medical students, residents and fellows.
